Whittington & Fisherwick set the pace!

Our Parish has much to be proud of after our success in the annual Heart of England in Bloom Awards, retaining the Gold Award for Horticultural excellence for a fourth successive year and topping that with the 2023 regional trophy for the Environmental Award for the entire Heart of England.

The Bloom judges visited the Parish in early July, meeting representatives from WFEG, Whittington School, the Woodland Committee, Parish Council and the Allotment Committee. The awards ceremony took place on 6th October and the judges comments included the following:

"Whittington and Fisherwick litter, graffiti and dog foul free, what a great start to a visit to probably the most environmentally friendly village in Staffordshire. Latterly the village has been transformed by substantial and well-planned wildflower sites which complements its rural setting."

The judges were much impressed by the stunning Swan Meadow wildflowers and much more besides including restoration work at Whittington Wood, the Hedgehog Highways initiative, Woodhouse Farm collaboration, the 80 fruit tree Community Orchard at Jubilee Park, water collection at the allotments, and the superb quality of some of the village gardens.

Our Bloom entry is led by WFEG but with the close involvement and support of the Parish Council and great help from our volunteers, Whittington School, the Allotmenteers, Woodhouse Farm, Whittington Wood Committee, St Giles Hospice, Staffordshire Community Energy and other local businesses and organisations.
