Heart of England in Bloom 2022 - We Strike Gold (again!)

You may have heard already about the triumph at the 2022 Bloom awards with the Parish retaining its Gold award. We scored 93 points out of 100. The overview comments were:

Whittington and Fisherwick continue in their role as exemplars of all things Bloom most especially in the Environmental field. The Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group were and are the bedrock of the Bloom efforts and each year sees a new initiative being developed. This time Bit End native tree planting project undertaken by numerous volunteers is added to the ever growing list. Some lovely floral gardens are supported by an increasing use of perennials and the use of wildflowers in many areas and in large numbers too is very encouraging. The now well established community orchard has been left to wildflowers with no obvious detriment to the trees and their cropping. Real community effort is making this entry a very special place indeed, a well-deserved Gold Award.

Other comments include:

The Middleton Rd Bridge Garden created and maintained by Mr and Mrs Rushton really is a place of horticultural wonder. An unkempt shortcut over the canal has been transformed by their efforts. Well worth a visit in its own right.

A heartfelt thanks from the WFEG Committee (echoed by the Parish Council) to all those who contribute to the marvellous communal effort: volunteers, businesses and community organisations - keep up the great work!
