We have reduced the number of cars we run from two to one. We use public transport where possible. If it is possible to walk somewhere rather than take the car, we will walk.
We dilligently recycle as much household waste as we can. We have replaced traditional light bulbs with low energy light bulbs in our rental property.
We have significantly reduced our gas and electicity bills by switching things off when they are not required.

Great news from our house! We managed to reduce our electricity usage by 46% against the previous comparable 12 month period and got a nice fat refund from Scottish Power for our pains.
All we did was switch stuff off/use applicances less using the info presented to us by our jolly old energy meter - there was no "pain" involved and only £30's expenditure

We've just become - to our knowledge - the first household in the parish to supply electricity to the grid - via our newly connected solar panels. So you good folks (and many others) are now helping to pay us 41.3p per kWh for our electricity! Thanks!!
Our 2.39 kW system was connected up a couple of hours ago and has already produced over 1kW. As I speak our meter is running backwards!! This despite having computer, Wi-Fi, fridge, freezer and several lights on.
We wont be unique for long however as at least two other households in Whittington are expecting to be connected up this month.
I'll keep you posted as to how we get on. Meantime if you would like any further info you can email at mike@wfeg.org.uk Also see the article in the latest WFEG news about solar power and the feed-in tariff.

We've definitely actively tried to reduce our energy consumption and waste.
I think WFEG is a great idea and feel lucky to be in a community where someone/people take the initative to do something like it!
